Antonio C. Castro '86 | Alumni Association President
After a thorough search process with highly qualified candidates, I am pleased to announce that the Board of Directors has selected Carlos Bravo '86 to serve as the Executive Director of the Belen Alumni Association of Jesuit Schools from Cuba and Miami.
Please join me in welcoming Carlos to this important role. Actually, it’s a “Welcome Home.” Carlos is not only a Belen grad and dad, he has also taught and coached hundreds of students at Belen.
“When I was a student at the school, I only dreamt of teaching at Belen one day. I’ve been blessed to say that I not only accomplished that dream but also had the distinct honor to coach some spectacular young men. Now, I have been given the opportunity to fulfil another dream of mine as I get ready to serve the Alumni Association in this capacity. I look forward to the challenge, feel excited for the opportunity, and am ready to carry on our important legacy,” said Bravo.
“The Alumni Association and Belen Jesuit are overjoyed with the addition of Carlos Bravo to our staff,” said Fr. Willie '87. “We know that he will keep alive and well the extraordinary work of alumni directors that came before him, all in the dynamic spirit of the Association’s founder, Fr. Juan Manuel Dorta-Duque, S.J. ’40. Please join me in welcoming him.”
As we move ahead, we are excited to energize our membership as we communicate more effectively. The shared legacy we all have as alumni fosters a tight brotherhood unlike any other. It is our conviction that we continue that drive and enthusiasm as we look towards the future.
A special thanks to the Board of Directors and all who participated in this process.
Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba, by Queen Isabel II of Spain. The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline. In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the school's property and expelled the Jesuit faculty. The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit is situated on a 34-acre site in western Dade County, just minutes away from downtown Miami.
