Cross Country Wins District Championship

Frankie Ruiz ’96 | Cross Country Head Coach
The Belen Jesuit Cross Country Team won its 36th District Title and 14th in a row on October 26 at Larry & Penny Thompson Park.

The team makes it look easy but our win was earned through lots of miles and tons of sweating. I’m proud that these athletes continue to build on our program’s tradition. Now we have to focus on our next challenge at Regionals.

The team was led by Joshua Lopez who ran the 5k in 15:58. The team scored 15 points placing 9 of its runners in the top 10. The Belen Wolverines have now won 9 straight major meets. The team, which dominated the field with a perfect score, advances to Regionals on Saturday, November 4th at South Fork High School in Stuart, Florida.  Congratulations to Joshua  Collins ‘18, Lucas De La Hoz ‘19, Diego Gomez ‘21, Adam Magoulas ‘22, Cesar Aguzzi ‘19, Matthew Bryan ‘20, Javier Vento ‘21, Sebastian Roa ‘19, Giancarlo Benitez ‘19, and Gabriel Nunes ‘20.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba, by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the school's property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit is situated on a 34-acre site in western Dade County, just minutes away from downtown Miami.
