Belen Jesuit Now Accepts Crypto Donations

Phil Fernandez ‘94 | Ex. Director of Advancement and Alumni Relations
Belen Jesuit has always been blessed by the generosity of its families, alumni, and friends. This generosity has helped shape the campus, support scholarships, and sustain the rich tradition of Jesuit education that forms “men for others.” Today, we are pleased to announce The Mariana Society, which provides a new way to give: cryptocurrency donations.

As digital currencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum have grown in popularity, so too has the ability to use them for charitable giving. By accepting cryptocurrency, Belen Jesuit provides our community with another convenient and tax-efficient way to make a meaningful impact.

The Mariana Society is named in honor of Fr. Juan de Mariana, S.J. (1535-1624), a visionary Spanish Jesuit who was persecuted for challenging the Spanish crown’s economic policies. In his 1609 treatise, De monetae mutatione, Mariana condemned the king’s debasement of the currency to pay off debts, calling it a form of "disguised robbery" that violated citizens' private property rights. He championed a stable currency, arguing that the foundations of an economy must not be altered. Mariana's principled stand for sound money and property rights four centuries ago echoes the core tenets of Bitcoin today.

Why Cryptocurrency Giving Matters
Accessibility: With a few clicks, donors can give quickly and securely through a trusted platform.

Mission Impact: Every cryptocurrency donation directly supports Belen Jesuit’s mission of forming young men rooted in faith, compassion, and leadership.

A New Tradition of Generosity
The Jesuit tradition has always embraced the idea of meeting people where they are—spiritually, educationally, and now even technologically. By accepting cryptocurrency, Belen Jesuit acknowledges the diverse ways our community chooses to give. Whether through gifts to the Fund for Belen, endowment support, planned giving, or digital assets, every donation strengthens our school. Donation such as this ensures that future generations benefit from the transformative power of a Jesuit education.

How to Give
Making a cryptocurrency gift is simple. Donors can select their preferred digital currency, complete the secure online form, and receive a receipt for their records. Gifts are processed promptly, converted to U.S. dollars, and directed to Belen in accordance with the donor’s wishes. Click here for more information or to make your donation.

The Mariana Society recognizes members of the community who give a gift of at least $2,500 in cryptocurrency or make the Bitcoin $250,000 Pledge.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba, by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the school's property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit is situated on a 34-acre site in western Dade County, just minutes away from downtown Miami.
