Major Gift Announcement: Drs. José and Ada Armas

Teresa Martinez | Director of Communications
Belen Jesuit is excited to announce that Dr. José “Pepe” Armas ‘77 and his wife Dr. Ada González Armas have pledged the single largest gift to the ‘For the Greater Glory’ Campaign in order to advance the vision and direction of the school. This pledge will go towards scholarships.

“The investment in the future of our student body is incredibly important, not only to Belen but to the Society of Jesus as a whole,” said Father Willie ‘87. “When St. Ignatius of Loyola founded the order, he quickly understood the importance that education has on society. It is with that vigor and determination that we as a Catholic, Jesuit school aim to assure that the possibility of a Jesuit education is an affordable option for parents. Pepe and Ada’s generosity will ensure that money is not an obstacle when a family is considering Belen Jesuit for their son.”

Dr. Armas is a proud graduate of the Belen class of 1977. He and his wife Ada are physicians and have a long and distinguished record of accomplishments in the healthcare field and are members of various boards and have contributed to many philanthropic causes.

“We are very proud that our sons - José Manuel ‘02 and Anthony Alexander ‘08 - attended Belen Jesuit, as well as our son in law Danny Bustamante ‘02,”  said José and Ada. “During their years at Belen, they not only received a wonderful education, but they also grew in their faith and graduated as men for others. The tradition of excellence instilled by the Jesuits in education is second to none. Our commitment to the school is a gesture of love and respect for Belen Jesuit and the importance it places on educating the whole person. We know that many families would love to send their sons to Belen and we hope that with this pledge we are opening the doors to the possibility of a Jesuit education.”

The Belen Financial Assistance Program annually awards $1.8 million in tuition assistance; roughly 25% of the student body. With 165 years of experience forming young men in the over 450-year old tradition of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Belen Jesuit strives to educate the heart, mind, body, and soul of all the young men who are entrusted to our care by their parents.

Because Belen relies on tuition for 85% of our budget, all parents of students at our school are asked to make a pledge to the Annual Fund at the time of registration to help fill the gap between tuition and the actual cost of education at Belen.

We continue to strive for greatness and need your help in achieving our goal. If you would like to contribute to the vision of the school, please contact Phil Fernandez ’94 at ffernandez@belenjesuit.org or call him at 305-804-7683.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
