Battle Like a Wolverine Virtual 5K

Teresa Martinez | Director of Communications
Since 2011, Belen Jesuit has hosted the Battle Like a Wolverine 5K family-friendly event on campus. This annual Breast Cancer Awareness event has raised over $80,000 which has provided free mammograms for uninsured individuals.

This year, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held virtually. So, whether you run on a treadmill, jog around the neighborhood or walk around the block, the Battle Like a Wolverine Virtual 5K is open to anyone and a fun way to support an important cause.

Although we won’t be able to run underneath the balloon arch like in years past or hear our wonderful drumline and cheerleaders, we know that this cause is an important one to the members of our community and look forward to a great virtual event. We are also very grateful to our returning premier sponsor AutoNation, Inc. for once again committing their support to breast cancer awareness and our Battle Like a Wolverine campaign.

Registration is now open! In order to participate, please register at http://www.belenjesuit.org/battlelikeawolverine by October 2nd. The registration is $20 and includes a commemorative shirt. Once registration is complete you will be able to download the race bib and virtual tool kit. Participants will be encouraged to complete the 3.1-mile distance on their own and to observe social distancing norms. Detailed information will be provided at the time of registration.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba, by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the school's property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit is situated on a 34-acre site in western Dade County, just minutes away from downtown Miami.
