Annual Gala Reimagined

Teresa Martinez | Director of Communications
The Annual Gala has become a time-honored tradition and pivotal fundraising event for the school. As we strive to adapt to our new normal, we are also trying to come up with creative ways to host our annual events. This year, these events will play a larger role than in previous years and capacity restrictions will require us to raise funds more creatively than ever.

“As you know, our signature events raise funds for the Financial Assistance Program which helps 20%   of our current students,” said Father Willie ‘87. “Now, circumstances have brought about an increase in the number of families requesting financial assistance and it is our responsibility to provide the support they need. For this reason, your help with these events is greatly appreciated.”

The first of these events is the Annual Gala. This year, for the first time, we will host the Annual Gala at Belen Jesuit on Saturday, November 7. Additionally, for the first time ever, we will also host a Virtual Gala that will take place simultaneously. The in-person gala will be held in the beautiful Garrido Family Plaza and have a limited capacity in order to abide by Miami-Dade County regulations. For those that cannot attend in-person, we will take the party to you!

“The feedback from the Belen community has been wonderful,” said Yvonne von der Osten, Director of Parent & Corporate Engagement. “Planning the gala has been a true endeavor but thanks to our amazing partners, Mena Catering and 2RCreative, along with our wonderful gala chairs and committees, we are planning two wonderful simultaneous events.”

Space is limited for the in-person gala, those who would like to find out how to become an event sponsor can contact Mrs. von der Osten at yvonderosten@belenjesuit.org. For information on the Virtual Gala please click here. The gala auction will go online on October 30th.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
