Belen Alumni Challenge Begins

Teresa Martinez | Director of Communications
Belen Alumni across all years are engaged in an online competition for bragging rights and most importantly to help their alma mater. On December 2nd, the annual #BelenAlumniChallenge launched a new platform with a dedicated website, https://alumnichallenge.belenjesuit.org.

“We made the decision to update our platform so that alumni can see the leaderboard in real-time and keep the competition going,” said Director of Giving Jorge Perez-Alvarez ‘76. “By visiting this new website alums can see how their class is doing, make a donation, and even download social media graphics that they can share on their personal pages to get others engaged. All in all, we are blessed to have a great alumni network and know that this will be well received.”

The friendly gift-giving competition aims to identify the top three classes with the highest giving. Those classes will be given the opportunity to select one of our signature Tombola booths. The top ten classes with the highest participation will be assigned a Tombola booth. All gifts to the Annual Fund for Belen go immediately to the school’s most pressing needs and benefit our current students in all aspects of their educational experience. In addition to providing resources for academic, technology, faculty recruitment, and retention, all gifts support the continuous operation of the Alumni Association, funds Alumni BConnected, Alumni tours, and the Bi-Annual Alumni magazine.

“As an alumnus who benefited from financial assistance at Belen, I am honored to have the opportunity to give back and helped Belen grow and prosper so that other boys, including my own sons, can benefit,” said Javier Mariscal ‘86.

The challenge will end on December 31st and the winners will be announced on January 8th. Alumni are encouraged to visit https://alumnichallenge.belenjesuit.org to watch a video message from Fr. Willie, check the leaderboard, and make your donation!

Last year’s winners are looking to retain their spot, while everyone else will be working to unseat them. Will the classes of 1991, 1976, and 1992 in total giving come out on top again? Will the classes of 1992, 1996, 1984, 1956, 1988, 1986, 1993, 1989, 2019, and 1987 in total participation come out on top again?

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba, by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the school's property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit is situated on a 34-acre site in western Dade County, just minutes away from downtown Miami.
