Disturb Us O Lord

Teresita Perez | Communications Specialist
For anyone’s life to be truly fulfilled with happiness, we can’t just be self-serving but be a servant to others. Employee Service Day was an incredibly impactful day for everyone. Held on March 25, 157 employees volunteered at 13 different sites around Miami-Dade County. Our employees helped pick up litter, clean trails, spend time with the elderly, read to children, paint a shelter and so much more. By being of service to others you have brought joy to humankind, even in the smallest of ways it means so much for those that have so little.

“The goals of this day were to humanize, accompany and complicate,” said Teresita Gonzalez, Christian Service Coordinator. “In going out to encounter the vulnerable, we hoped to grow in the courage and compassion of the Gospel.”

Providing service is addicting in a good way because it fulfills the essential needs, we all have to be kind, and thoughtful to our fellow brothers and sisters. The warm feeling that builds up inside your heart when assisting others helps you become better at everything in your own life, including work, and family, and it’s even beneficial to improving your health.

“Centro Mater does an outstanding service to the children of our community,” said Dr. Susan Loopez. “The love and dedication the staff shows for their work is an example to follow. Some of us had the opportunity to visit the center and as part of our duties we served as assistants to the teachers of the center, participated in book readings, and made crafts with the kids.”

“Thank you to all our employees for your commitment and dedication on such a memorable day,” Virginia Trujillo, Director of Human Resources. “By providing your service to others, the world gets a step closer to God.”

In the end, all the experiences were shared in a wrap-up session which brought to all of us a vision of the seamless garment amidst the diversity of life that all of them witnessed, in the vulnerable and afflicted of our community.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
