Campus Improvements Update

Rick Echeverría '84 | Executive Director of Facilities
Throughout the summer, the maintenance team and contractors worked on several projects on campus. The following were made possible by the generous support of those who give to the Fund for Belen and the For the Greater Glory campaign.
  • Ten classrooms were gutted and remodeled to match the existing modernized classrooms.
  • The new Catholic Entrepreneurship Program has a renovated classroom to maximize the learning experience. Pending is the digital signage located outside the classroom, which will include a stock market ticker.
  • The Campus Store was remodeled to include a more functional floor plan, improved lighting, and new items were added to the inventory. Click here to visit the online store.
  • New signage has been added around the main building of the school. The main school building is named in honor of the José Milton Foundation, which pledged $4,500,000 to the school. The signage at the main entrance will be installed soon, and an unveiling ceremony is being planned.
  • The land where the Roberto Surís Athletic Center is being built has been cleared. The exterior tennis/basketball courts have been removed, and excavation is underway. The three-story, nearly 60,000-square-foot building will feature a two-tiered fitness center, a gym, locker rooms, a training room, the athletic hall of fame, golf simulators, a film room, and much more.
  • The floor in the existing gymnasium was refinished.
  • The elevator doors have been wrapped with Belen branding.
  • The exterior walls of the school were painted.
  • Construction continues on the covered walkway connecting the main building and the Roberto C. Goizueta Innovation Center.
  • The courtyard adjacent to the Our Lady of Belen Chapel should be completed within the next few weeks.
  • Coming soon is a new state-of-the-art digital scoreboard at de la Cruz Stadium.
  • The faculty and student parking lot was sealed and re-striped over the Summer.
  • Work on the new overflow parking lot located just north of the Middle School Baseball field will commence next month. It is scheduled to be completed by the second semester.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba, by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the school's property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow. Today, Belen Jesuit is situated on a 34-acre site in western Dade County, just minutes away from downtown Miami.
