Belen Jesuit is proud to announce that His Eminence Cardinal Christophe Pierre will be the commencement speaker at the graduation ceremony on May 24 at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami. Cardinal Pierre has been serving as the apostolic nuncio (ambassador) to the United States since 2016.

“We are deeply honored that His Eminence agreed to share this very special moment with our senior class,” said Jesuit Father Guillermo M. García-Tuñón, Ed.D. ‘87, President of Belen Jesuit. “To have a member of our Church of such knowledge, depth, and experience share his wisdom with the young men of Belen who are ready to set the world on fire will not only ignite their passion but hopefully inspire them to make the world a better place.”

Originally from France, Cardinal Pierre is a veteran Vatican diplomat who has represented the Holy See in Mexico, Uganda, and Haiti. Pope Francis elevated him to the Church's College of Cardinals on September 30, 2023. In his role as the Vatican's ambassador to the United States, Cardinal Pierre is responsible for helping identify and vet potential bishops for the U.S. Church.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
