Four Students to Sign National Letters of Intent

The Belen community is proud to announce that four student athletes will sign their national letters of intent to play sports at the collegiate level. 
The signing ceremony will take place Wednesday, November 8, at 3:15 p.m., in the Belen Jesuit Dining Hall.
 
“We are very proud of these young men. This signing day is a result of many years of hard work on the playing fields, training room, and in the classroom,” said Carlos Barquin, Athletic Director. “All of them are outstanding young men, and they will be excellent Belen ambassadors at their respective universities.”
 
Baseball:
Jonathan Barditch – Manhattan College
Andrew Hernandez – University of Pennsylvania
Humberto Torres – Florida International University
 
Swimming:
Aitor Fungarino – University of Texas-Austin
 
“It is a great honor for the Belen community to have these athletes recognized for their stellar abilities,” said Jose E. Roca, Principal. “They are not only great athletes, but well-rounded students who represent Belen Jesuit at the highest levels."

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
