“Calling All Wolverines”

Teresa Martinez | Director of Communications
Six hundred alumni, parents, and friends of the school attended the annual Belen Jesuit Gala on November 18 at the University of Miami Donna E. Shalala Student Center.
This year our Gala Committee chose the theme, “Calling All Wolverines.” Inspired by the ever-popular superhero movies, Belen Jesuit calls out to all of you to be "super" as we continue our mission of educating the future leaders of Miami and beyond.

The night’s festivities began with a silent auction and cocktail reception. Once the ballroom doors opened guests made their way to their tables to enjoy a delicious dinner by Suzanne Michael Catering. Father Alberto Garcia, S.J., superior of the Miami Jesuits led the invocation and Father Willie García-Tuñón addressed the group. A live auction was held and the winner of the Tuition Raffle was notified. After dinner, the party continued with live music by the Ariel Remos Band.

Since its founding in Havana, Cuba in 1854 and forced relocation in Miami in 1961, Belen Jesuit has been committed to providing a Jesuit education to as many young men as possible. Never forgetting our humble beginnings in Little Havana, we want to make sure that our Financial Assistance Program is strong and vibrant so that money is not an obstacle when a family desires a Catholic-Jesuit education for their son. The Annual Gala is one of three signature events that directly raises funds for the Financial Assistance Program. Up next, we invite you to participate in the Fr. Izquierdo Memorial Golf Tournament on Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Melreese Golf Course. The last signature event is our Annual Tombola which will take place on campus February 9-11, 2018.

Special thanks to all the members of the Gala committee especially the Gala Chairs: Tina Pujals and Mary Castro, Program Book Chairpersons: Alexandra Eiroa and Rosa de la Torre, Auction Chairperson: Miriam Guso, Decorating Chairperson: Patty Paredes and Graciela Gallinar. Leading the group was Belen’s Director of Parent & Corporate Engagement Mrs. Yvonne von der Osten. Click here to view pictures from the event. Click here to view the video.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
