Consecration to Mary

Fr. Guillermo M. García-Tuñón, S.J.'87 | President
You will recall that last academic year we launched the marian sodality Esto Vir.
Wanting to strengthen the relationship with the ACU and taking advantage of an initiative on the part of a group of juniors, we started this group as a way of creating a space where our students can deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and strengthen their devotion to his Blessed Mother. Marian sodalities were founded by the Society of Jesus in the early 18th century and are found in schools, universities, and parishes all over the world.

On December 8, the feast day of the Immaculate Conception, a group of our Esto Vir students made their consecration to Mary at the high school mass. Consecration is part of the sodality tradition. We ask that you pray for these young men who have publicly expressed their awareness and desire to live their lives devoted to Mary, the Church, and to Jesus Christ.

The members of the Esto Vir group who made their consecration to the Blessed Mother are: Robert Curbelo, Manuel Fernandez, Javier Fraga, Kyle Gomez, Juan Lam, Eric Lastres, Felipe Pardo, and Waldo Toyos.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
