March for Life Reflection

Bryan Reyes '19
The March for Life in Washington, D. C. was a great experience. This was my second year going and I want to continue participating after I graduate from Belen Jesuit. Each year it amazes me to see how many people show up for this pro-life event. I even think there were more people this year than last. The march took place on January 18, and together with 28 of my Belen brothers, we marched to bring awareness to this important cause.

I’m proud to be pro-life because every life should be protected. It was great being around so many people who believed the same. On the morning of the March for Life we took part in the Youth Rally and Mass for Life at the Capital One Arena. It was packed and impressive. We joined up with the pilgrims from the Archdiocese of Miami.  I met some wonderful people throughout the experience whom I otherwise wouldn’t have met. I will cherish this opportunity and memory always. I encourage students to consider participating in the Belen Respect Life Ministry by contacting Mrs. Corzo at scorzo@belenjesuit.org.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and spiritual discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  Today, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
