CRYPTO GIVING

Give now or pledge later.

At Belen Jesuit, generosity comes in many forms. In addition to traditional gifts, you can now support our mission with cryptocurrency donations. Giving in this way can provide meaningful tax advantages while helping us continue to educate young men in the Jesuit tradition.

The Mariana Society is named in honor of Juan de Mariana (1535-1624), a visionary Spanish Jesuit who was persecuted for challenging the Spanish crown’s economic policies. The Mariana Society recognizes members of the community who give a gift of at least $2,500 in cryptocurrency or make the Bitcoin $250,000 Pledge.

WHO IS FR. JUAN DE MARIANA, S.J.

In his 1609 treatise, De monetae mutatione, Fr. Mariana, S.J. condemned the king’s debasement of the currency to pay off debts, calling it a form of "disguised robbery" that violated citizens' private property rights. He championed a stable currency, arguing that the foundations of an economy must not be altered. Fr. Mariana's principled stand for sound money and property rights four centuries ago echoes the core tenets of Bitcoin today.

Is the process of Giving Cryptocurrency safe and secure?

As with any form of electronic payment or transaction, there are risks; however, our vendor Engiven, has created certain safeguards they believe are needed to ensure that the transaction is secure.

With the transfer of cryptocurrency from donor to nonprofit, Engiven believes the transaction can be more secure than many other payment methods, provided certain protocols are followed. By using the Engiven platform, both the nonprofit and the donor are required to undergo a simple but effective Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) screening, which provides a high level of background security to ensure both parties are appropriately screened.

What is Engiven?
The Engiven platform is third-party vendor-provided donation software that enables nonprofits to safely and securely receive cryptocurrency donations and convert them into usable fiat currency, such as U.S. dollars. Learn more about Engiven here.
I understand that the value of Cryptocurrency is highly volatile. What does the School do with donated crypto coins?
Engiven has been instructed to liquidate cryptocurrency donations to Belen Jesuit immediately. Belen receives the cash proceeds in our checking account within a few business days.
