CHRISTIAN SERVICE
The Christian Service Office forms young men into faithful disciples of Christ through the lived practice of the Ignatian tradition. Guided by the mission of the Society of Jesus—faith that does justice—our program calls students to move beyond good intentions and into deliberate action rooted in prayer, reflection, and conscience. Anchored in the questions of St. Ignatius—What have I done for Christ? What am I doing for Christ? What will I do for Christ?—Students are challenged to examine their lives with honesty and to respond with purpose.
At the heart of this formation is a personal encounter with Christ at the margins. Students are sent to serve those who are poor, elderly, sick, incarcerated, disabled, and oppressed, not as an obligation to fulfill but as a sacred relationship to honor. In these encounters, they come face to face with human dignity, systemic injustice, and their own responsibility in a broken world.
Service becomes an opening to transformation — shaping hearts that are attentive, compassionate, and unwilling to look away from suffering. |
Reflection is inseparable from action. Through guided discernment, students learn to recognize God’s presence in their experiences, to listen deeply, and to respond with humility and courage. This process forms habits of empathy, critical awareness, and moral clarity that endure long after graduation.
Service and advocacy are not optional; they are essential expressions of what it means to be formed in a Jesuit education. Through sustained engagement with under-resourced communities, students grow in faith, develop moral character, and embrace their calling as “Men for and with Others” — leaders who choose solidarity over comfort and justice over indifference.
Our aim is to foster transformative experiences that lead students to encounter God through those they serve. These encounters awaken their call to live with charity and justice, moving them beyond generosity of action into generosity of heart. Students are challenged to offer their time, talents, and presence with intention, humility, and compassion.
Through this formation, they deepen their understanding of Christian solidarity and come to recognize God’s love at work in both the local and global community. Service becomes not simply what they do, but who they are becoming — men formed to respond with faith, courage, and responsibility.
