Belen Jesuit is proud to welcome Michelle Miñoso as the school's new Director of Student Career Development. A veteran educator with nearly three decades at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy, most recently as Chairperson of the Business & Computer Science Department & Externship Coordinator, Ms. Miñoso brings a wealth of experience in preparing students for life beyond the classroom.

Let’s get to know Ms. Miñoso a bit more, learn about her vision for the Office of Career Development, and find out what Belen families can look forward to.
 

The Office of Career Development has already connected more than 600 students with meaningful work experiences. What excites you most about building on that legacy?

Honestly, what excites me most is the chance to work closely with our alumni network, parents, and students. Over 600 students have already gained real-world experience through this program, and I want to keep building on that by bringing even more of our community into the process, because the more people we involve, the more our students benefit.

Belen's mission is to form "Men for Others." How does career development at Belen go beyond resumes and internships to help form well-rounded young men of character?

Career development at Belen is not just about helping a student get a job someday. It’s about helping him understand who he wants to be. When a professional takes the time to explain not just what they do, but why they do it and how their work serves others, that lesson stays with a student long after the conversation ends. We are not just preparing them to work. We are preparing them to lead with purpose.

What is your vision for the Office of Career Development, and what new opportunities can students look forward to?

My vision is to build career planning into every grade, from 6th through 12th, so that by the time our students are ready to go out into the community, they have had the years to explore, ask questions, and grow into their decisions rather than facing them all at once. Students can look forward to one-on-one meetings, workshops, shadowing experiences, externships, and internships tailored to their career interests as well as more opportunities which will allow them to connect with alumni, parents, and professionals throughout our community.
 

What advice would you give a Belen student who isn't yet sure which path he wants to pursue?

Keep an open mind. Take advantage of the workshops and opportunities available to you, even the ones that feel outside your comfort zone. You do not need to have it all figured out right now. The more you learn and participate, the clearer your path will become.

How can parents and alumni get involved in the Office of Career Development?

There are so many ways to get involved: volunteering as a guest speaker, participating in the Ignatian Gentlemen series, or hosting a student for an externship or internship experience. Every level of involvement makes a real difference for our students.
