Fr. Guillermo García-Tuñón, S.J. '87 | President
The Belen Jesuit experience is shaped by the faculty, coaches, Jesuits, and dedicated individuals who have embraced the vocation of teaching. Among them stands Mrs. Carol Ann Vila, whose impact on our school community has been both profound and enduring.
Mrs. Vila began her remarkable journey at Belen in 1975, teaching Algebra II to juniors and Physical Science to eighth-grade students. Over the course of five decades, she taught every level of math and science before being named Mathematics Department Chair. In the 1980s, recognizing the growing importance of technology, she went back to school to earn a degree in Computer Science—marking the beginning of a transformative chapter in her career as Belen’s Director of Technology.
Her vision and leadership helped shape the technological foundation of our school. From establishing Belen’s first computer labs to developing a forward-thinking computer science curriculum, Mrs. Vila played a pivotal role in positioning Belen as a leader in innovation. Her efforts culminated in Belen becoming the first one-to-one school in South Florida during the 2011–2012 academic year. She has truly embodied the spirit of the magis, inspiring generations of young men to pursue excellence, particularly in technology-driven fields.
Mrs. Vila has also been a trusted advisor, offering wisdom and guidance throughout my tenure as president.
With deep gratitude and respect, I share that Mrs. Vila will retire on January 15, 2027. After 51 years of forming thousands of young men, she now begins a well-deserved new chapter with her husband, Luis, their four daughters, and six grandchildren.
In the months ahead, Belen’s leadership, along with a hand-picked committee, will search for our next Director of Technology, someone who will continue to advance our mission through meaningful innovation in teaching, learning, and operations. The position is posted on our employment webpage.
For now, I ask you to join me in giving thanks for Mrs. Vila’s extraordinary vocation and service to Belen Jesuit. Please keep her and her family in your prayers.
Our Lady of Belen, pray for us.
Auspice Maria
